A COVID-19 Love Story

Picture of A COVID-19 Love Story

Erin and Jason met in the summer of 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic through the dating app, Hinge. Erin was home from college for the Summer before her senior year, living with her parents. Jason was living in Ballard with his friend Morgan, working away in residential construction. Without the app, they might never have met.

Thanks to Jason’s random profile, they matched and had their first conversation—about Christmas of all things! The two love going all out at Christmas, especially when it comes to decorating. Keep in mind, this conversation was happening in July.

They decided to meet in person shortly afterwards. Despite COVID restrictions, outdoor dining was allowed. They chose El Camion, a taco truck in Ballard outside Hale’s Brewery. The two had long conversations about the dismal Mexican food in Seattle, growing up in sports, and random World War II history. Jason was in shock when Erin hadn’t seen a show called The Pacific and just had to show her an episode. Easily convinced, the two headed back and watched two episodes of The Pacific. Erin impressed Jason so much she even got to meet his best friend, Morgan. At least that is what she tells herself.

They enjoyed the rest of the summer together until Erin had to return to Oregon for school. They decided to try a long-distance relationship, despite the five-hour drive. Erin soon realized there was little to do at school with COVID restrictions and decided to go virtual from Washington. Over the next year and a half, they were able to do all sorts of fun activities: ordering takeout, going for walks, and even taking the occasional COVID test when there was a scare.

Fast forward to January of 2024, the two share a home in Kenmore, WA with their spoiled dog, Summer. Jason continues to work his way up in residential construction while Erin is now in the commercial insurance sector. They spend their free time enjoying the outdoors, arguing about the dishwasher, and obsessing over their dog’s bowel movements. They even deck out their home for the holidays every year. They lived happily ever after.

Oh wait, looks like they forgot some kind of formality along the way. In January of 2024, Jason popped the question after Erin finished a 12 minute tangent about her food allergies. Completely surprised, Erin said sure, and the two went to tour their wedding venue the very next day.
